There is more police because there are huge amount of people there in China and definitely in places like Shanghai with huge amount of tourists from around the world and domestic tourists. Also Chine has money to fund police. There is no police brutality like in US so you fell safe and you are safe.

Why do western medias and politicians keep lying about china? Because if people knew the truth about china, they will questioned the leadership of western's countries. Lets take US as example. Their people have to pay 50% taxes in average, some states even more than that, and what do they get in return? Almost nothing. No medical support, no education support, outdated infractructures, shitty public transportation, crimes are high, sidewalk smell like toilet. expressway, subway and railway own by private companies which raise the price so high to make profit. I can go on and on, and still will miss alot. And when the people begin to question about their tax money, politicians and media will create an enemy so the people feel that they need to defend freedom and democracy at ALL COST. After the people start to hate the enemy they created, every cents that the politicians spent will be forgiveable. Thats how politicians do it
